“Amidst the rush and confusion of modern life

something old and wise is trying to catch up with

us. Whereas simple knowledge tends to divide

things, genuine wisdom tends to make

meaningful unity possible.”

~ Michael Meade

Our Approach

The Fellowship of Sages programme engages with four powerful modalities to support the succeeding of all Fellows.

Through each Quest, you travel the stages of the Transtheoretical Model of Behavioural Change, Embark on the Hero’s Journey founded by Joseph Campbell, receive insight and inspiration from traditional Chinese Five Element Theory and a gain influence from the ancient pagan tradition of honouring the Four Directions and their meaning.

The Hero's Journey

The Hero's Journey, or the monomyth, is the common template of stories that involve a Hero traversing the world, undergoing inner and outer transformation at each stage of the journey.

  • The Call to Adventure: The Hero leaves the ordinary world.
  • The Initiation: The Hero ventures into the unknown world and is birthed into a true champion through various trials and challenges.
  • The Return: The Hero returns with new knowledge and shows up in the world embodied and wise.

As the hero moves through their journey they have the opportunity to choose between safety and growth, dependance and independence, regression and progression, immaturity or maturity.

The Four Directions

Each direction is associated with an element of the natural world, and represents a part of our human nature. The directions are part of the interdependent system making up the world.

  • West: Overcoming fear and responding to the Call to Adventure.
  • North: Connecting to inner-warrior energy and embodiment.
  • South: Turning to the direction of fire and the power of conscious action.
  • East: Connecting to inner-sage and embodiment

Each direction has a different meaning and presents an opportunity for gratitude, healing and transformation.

Transtheoretical Model of Behaviour Change

The model supports an individual to assess their readiness to act on a new behaviour or way of being, truly serving and honouring them. Behaviour change is a process that unfolds over time through a sequence of stages:

  • Pre-contemplation (not ready).
  • Contemplation (getting ready).
  • Preparation (ready).
  • Action.
  • Maintenance of new behaviour.

The sequence of the Quests of the Fellowship of Sages is aligned with the Transtheoretical Model of Behaviour Change.

Five Element Theory

Chinese well-being practitioners recognised, in nature and human beings, continuous patterns and cycles of transformation and change in the universe.

Five Element Theory was developed to demonstrate how all aspects of human health, including movement, diet and emotions, are interconnected with nature and our environment

  • Metal - Letting go of the familiar, turning towards adventure.
  • Water - Surrendering to the current.
  • Fire - Igniting courage, fuelling momentum.
  • Wood - Integrating and embodying new knowledge.
  • Earth - Nourishing and harvesting wisdom.

The infinite power of space holding

When I was first invited to join the Fellowship of Sages, I had a genuine fear of not being able to show up fully with all my thoughts and feeling about the values that construct my identity and how I be in the world, and I quickly realised the intensity of being part of a men's group with seven other men. I generally found it easier to talk about emotions with women, and my less desired vulnerable part would only be allowed to show up in a very safe space.

The Fellowship of Sages guided by the amazing Hannah and Fi provided that space for me and I am sure for the rest of the group too. The structure of the program is so intelligently put together and executed with an abundance of love and compassion that allows for an all open expression of self and welcomes all emotions, thoughts, and parts of one's identity with equal acceptance and a non-judgemental presence.

I believe from the second meeting on, the mountain I thought I had to climb in order to settle into the group was flattened, and what seemed too personal and vulnerable to be expressed outside an intimate circle became an integral part of every gathering. This was made possible with the intelligence, humour, kindness, and true honesty of Hannah and Fi.
